The Master in Global Luxury Goods & Services Management (MGLuxM) Batch 12 students travelled to India's first boutique winery, the fascinating Soma Vineyards in Nashik, on May 29, 2023, for an amazing tour. The field visit offered the aspiring connoisseurs a thorough introduction to the craft of winemaking. The students were treated to an insightful tour, engaging them in every stage of the wine production process. Additionally, they had the opportunity to indulge in an enjoyable wine tasting session, where they explored the various flavours that delighted their palates. It was an encounter they will never forget in their pursuit of knowledge and exploration.

Exploring the Winery:

Upon arriving at Soma Vineyards, the working ground staff warmly welcomed the students. The staff members guided the students through the vineyard while communicating their vast knowledge and experience about the various aspects of viticulture. The students developed a thorough understanding of the art and science involved in creating fine wines, from the early stages of harvesting to the fermentation and ageing processes.

Everyone was marvelled at the rows of neatly managed grapevines and the lush foliage as they strolled through the enormous expanse of vineyards. It was an eye-opening experience that elucidated the students' understanding of the detailed care required to produce exceptional wines.

Wine Making:

The centre of the winery, where the magic really happens, was shown to the students as they delved deeper into the world of winemaking. The staff led the students on a fascinating tour of the complete winemaking process, from grape crushing to fermentation, ageing, and bottling.

The students were in awe once they witnessed the massive stainless-steel tanks where the fermentation of grape juice into wine took place. They experienced first-hand how skilfully winemakers build their products as they meticulously monitor and regulate temperature and fermentation levels to produce the desired flavours and aromas.

Wine Tasting:

After the informative tour, the students' visit culminated with an outstanding wine-tasting session. For the students to savour and comprehend the distinctive qualities of each kind, the team selected a carefully curated selection of wines. The qualities of each wine were thoroughly explained, enabling the students to build a sophisticated palate and recognise the subtleties of flavours and smells.

The rustically charming eating space offered the ideal setting for the students to enjoy their lunch in conjunction with the wonderful wines they had previously tried. The students left with priceless memories since the sumptuous food and top-notch wines improved the entire experience.
