Students from the MGLuxM January 2021 cohort attended their first Power Talk with Dr Sheetal Jain, where they learnt:

  • How luxury is an art applied to functional items
  • The importance of storytelling for luxury brands
  • How luxury can be subjective and relative to a location
  • How the desire is being sold, rather than the need, in the luxury industry
  • How two luxury brands can never compete as each brand is distinct with a different heritage and approach
  • How luxury brands focus on their unique brand identity and brand DNA

She concluded the interactive session with encouraging findings from her research which estimates that around 200 new luxury brands are poised to enter the Indian market in the near future.

Tarun Jagwani’s Power Talk helped students gain innovative insights and ideas on how they can connect with brands on social media. Here are the key takeaways from his session:

  • He believes in the power of networking and leveraging various social media platforms for new opportunities
  • He trusts in the content produced, irrespective of its media reach, and connects with those brands and creators
  • Keeping a public profile for a brand is important for a wider reach
  • ‘Likes’, ‘comments’ and sharing a brand’s stories helps you connect with the brand eventually over Direct Messaging (DM) and collaborate for projects; the key to it, however, is to be genuine.

He also helped students understand his work process by taking them on a virtual tour into his social media accounts and demonstrating how he comments on posts and connects with people over DMs.

Karan Bhangay and Martine de Ridder discussed the various aspects of creating and building a luxury brand and highlighted the skills needed to launch a global luxury brand in today’s challenging business world. Key learnings include:

  • Maintain transparency in business to enhance your relationship with clients
  • Harness the power of social media and understand the limitations of its usage
  • Endorsements and collaborations on social media have become a necessity and an integral part of the entrepreneurial journey
  • The use of language, storytelling and imagery on social media is essential
  • An entrepreneur must consider having multiple sources of revenue
  • The importance of communication and developing interpersonal skills

The events helped our students get a hands-on learning experience and up-to-date insights from industry experts and provided them a platform to network and build rewarding professional connections.
